Let The Festivities Begin: Downtown Washington Holiday Guide

It is hard to believe that this year is almost over, and that the Holidays are coming up already. I will be taking a short Thanksgiving break, but first I wanted to fill you in on all the Holliday Happenings in Washington. There is lots to see and do downtown, all the storefronts are beautifully decorated and the Christmas tree is already up. Here is a list of events you might not want to miss:

  •  Nov 25th

Come downtown at 6 p.m. for the Holiday Parade of Lights! Directly after the that you can watch the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting on the corner of Main and Elm Streets, followed by visit with Santa at the Farmers’ Market. The Fudge Shoppe will be open late for the parade for some hot chocolate or apple cider. Looking for a different warm-me-up? John G’s Bier Deck will be serving chili and they will have live music! In the mood for some art? Head to the Art Center! They will be open until 8 p.m. and the City of Washington’s 175th Anniversary logo contest winner will be on display.

  • Nov. 26th

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. I. B. Nuts & Fruit Too is participating in Small Business Saturday! Stop by for some samples and enter to win a custom gift basket valued at $50!

  • Nov. 27th

Don’t miss Olde Fashioned Christmas at the Farmer’s Market from 3-5 p.m. Join the festivities as you greet Santa and Mrs. Claus, sing carols with various musical groups, roast marshmallows, sip hot cocoa and cider, take a carriage or hay ride, decorate cookies, make crafts, and get your face painted!

  • Dec 2nd

Come to the Washington Train Depot to greet Santa and Mrs. Claus to jumpstart the Christmas season! The train will arrive at 5 p.m. with Santa available for pictures inside the Depot upon arrival.

  • Dec. 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th

Festival of Christmas Trees at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. Every Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 6 p.m.

These are just some of the happenings downtown, make sure you visit the local shops to see what holiday surprises they have in store for you! I will be back in December with some new and exciting posts!
