I am not much of a sports person, but I do like yoga. It strikes the perfect balance between body and mind and it makes me feel just right. So when my friend Jenny told me about a free yoga class just two blocks away from my house, I couldn’t say no. Friday morning, 8:30, at the Washington Healing Arts Center on 5th street.
For these of you who have never gone to a yoga class, let me just say that you don’t need any prior training. You can work at your own pace, stretching the muscles and relaxing the mind. Here are a couple of quotes that sum up yoga best:
The most important pieces of equipment you need for doing yoga are your body and your mind.
Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one’s being, from bodily health to self realization. Yoga means union – the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day to day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.
You cannot do yoga. Yoga is your natural state. What you can do are yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state.
Change is not something that we should fear. Rather, it is something that we should welcome. For without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they’re meant to be.
