Located on 9 West Main Street, Joe's Bakery & Delicatessen has been in business since March 2009. Although you won't be able to find it on the Internet, everybody in town knows where to go for a delicious sandwich or a yummy dessert.
Behind the counter you will find Joe, the owner, ready to hand you a hand-made pastry with a smile. Cooking has always been Joe's passion, and he loves to experiment with new recipes and products.
Previously to opening the bakery, Joe worked at the Landing for 5 years. Then he decided to start selling baked goods at the Farmer's Market, a venture that went very well. As he put it, "Desserts are always something people love".
Encouraged by the wonderful reception, Joe found a vacant space on Main Street and opened the bakery. His business belongs downtown, and fits perfectly into the old-fashioned feel Washington has.
When the bakery first opened, there was a line down the street for Joe's yummy creations. He says that the community was very welcoming and that everybody in Washington loves his coconut cream pies.
Joe's Bakery offers home-made soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches, and desserts. Everything is made from scratch and with lots of love. Joe also does catering.
Cooking runs in Joe's family. His aunt was a very good baker, and his mom was a very good cook. His great aunt, who lived to be 102, bought Joe subscription to "Bon Appetite" for 25 years.
Through experimenting with hard to prepare recipes, Joe learned what goes with what and became an excellent cook. He is always trying new things and expanding his menu.
True to his old-fashioned style, Joe doesn't have a computer or a cell phone. You can visit the bakery from 10 am until 4 pm Monday through Saturday, or call 636 390-8282. I am not being partial, but the desserts at Joe's bakery are to die for!
Just a little reminder... 😉
