Find Some “Me Time”: The Body Natural Salon & Spa

Have you noticed that we tend to neglect what is right in front of our eyes? Our everyday surroundings have become so familiar, that we stop appreciating them for what they are. We choose to see what we know, and we are blind for the rest. It is the same with our bodies. We are used to making them do what we want them to, but hardly ever take some time to pamper them.

“Many people treat their bodies as if they were rented from Hertz – something they are using to get around in but nothing they genuinely care about understanding”

Chungliang Al Huang

Fortunately, it is never too late to change our ways and reward ourselves with some “me time.” Luckily, there is a place in downtown Washington to do so! Located on 401 Lafayette Street, the Body Natural Salon &Spa is a complete Aveda concept salon offering hair, skin, and nail care services for men and women alike.

Many of you have probably seen the beautiful yellow house right across from the Library. Located on 401 Lafayette Street, the Body Natural Salon & Spa is dedicated to providing balance to the body, mind, and soul by offering peaceful surroundings, professional services, and products that take care of you and the earth.

The owner, Mary Mebruer, used to come to Body Natural to get her nails done and ended up buying the business in 2000. Mary is a Licensed Esthetician and she uses the full line of Aveda products to pamper her clients.

Aveda (pronounced ah-vay-da) is a brand of products that uses plant-based ingredients. The company was founded by Horst Rechelbacher in 1978. In 1970, Horst, on a trip to India, was introduced to the healing properties of Ayurveda (the traditional Hindu longevity medicine) and aroma, and suddenly his vision for his company (thus the name Aveda) was born.

Every year in April, which is known to be Earth Month, the Body Natural does their big fundraiser: a raffle for a Complete Makeover. The money that is raised goes to help clean water in Missouri. This is part of Aveda’s Global Greengrants program, which is devoted to protecting water rights and water access around the world.

Did you know that you can get your nails done at the Body Natural? For Valentine’s Day they are having a special: buy a $50 Gift Certificate and get a FREE manicure!

From a basic haircut and style to hair extensions, the Body Natural can do it all. What’s the best part about it? Most hair services begin with a head, neck, shoulder massage, cleansing shampoo and conditioner.

How about some color? The new line of Aveda hair products offers more customized colors. The pigments come separate from the base, and you can chose the exact color you desire.

The Body Natural offers some special treatments for men. The Foot Detail takes place at this extremely comfortable chair, and special attention is paid to the nails and calluses. A foot and leg massage complete the service. Valentine’s day is coming up, ladies… 🙂

The Body natural also offers Special Occasion Makeup, along with a couple of different facial treatments. If you are on the go, you can opt for the Express Facial, which takes only 30 minutes and includes cleansing, toning, steaming and masque. Have more time? Definitely choose the Spa Facial that focuses on maintaining the integrity of the skin and leaves you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Nowadays the benefits of massage have been recognized, and it is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. The Body natural offers 30, 60 and 90 minutes massage sessions, as well as Pregnancy Massage and Hot Stone Massage. The new line of Aveda products, Stress Fix,  is designed to melt away the tension with lavender as a base fragrance.
