Have you walked by Iron Horse Trains on Main Street recently? The progress of the model railroad layout they are building is amazing! If you don't know what I am talking about, take a look back http://rediscoverwashington.org/2012/01/15/something-is-going-on-on-main-street-iron-horse-trains/
What Brian and Don started about 6 weeks ago, has grown into a wonderful project that brings train enthusiasts to Washington. Brian believes that the future of the downtown is to become a destination spot, and I couldn't agree more with him.
Iron Horse Train stays open late until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. They decided to do that, so more people could come and see them after work. Last Saturday, a couple from St. Louis strolled in, surprised to find an open downtown store. They loved the layout and the trains (which have been running for a while now), and said that they will bring more friends to Washington.
Brian says that kids light up when they see the trains! If you go and see the track, you will know why!
The response from train enthusiasts and volunteers has been huge! Many people in the community have been helping in building the model train layout. Iron Horse Trains are expecting a big group, eager to run their model trains, to arrive on the train to Washington in March.
Building the model train layout is not as easy task as it seems, but Brian sees it as a community project that will help revive the downtown area. He is willing to work together with all merchants in an attempt to help people re-discover the benefits Washington has to offer.
Need a reason to go for a walk downtown tonight? Iron Horse Trains has already given you one. And, for a small donation, they will run the trains for you 🙂
