If you live in Washington, and you don’t know who Bridgette Epple is, you probably don’t live in Washington. Bridgette is the Executive Director at Downtown Washington, Inc. and she loves her job and the downtown with a passion. If you Google her name, at least 10 pages will come up. Bridgette usually has her hand in most fairs, festivals and events you love to go to downtown. She has great organizations skills, and her contagious enthusiasm and energy inspire her crew and volunteers to give their best.
The Morning I dislike it at first, but then once I am up and showered I like it. As I get older I realize I get so much more done if I just get up earlier. I have a random morning schedule – just depends on when I have to be at work or when I have a meeting: it ranges from having to be somewhere at 7:30am to 10am.
The Coffee Coffee and I have had a rough relationship – I can’t drink it without a bunch of “stuff” in it. My friend Bryan has tried to make me a coffee lover for years, but I am more likely to have a chai tea latte.
The Drink BEER! I love micro-brewed beers! My favorite beers and places are: 90 Schilling at The Old Dutch, Boulevard Wheat at The Landing and Hofbrau at John G’s Bier Deck. I love soda, but have been trying diligently to break my habit – although I will never go without my frozen Pepsi’s from Fischer’s Food Shop!
The Food Mexican comes to mind immediately, but there are so many others. My favorite meal from my Mom is Droege’s pork sausage, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. (Yes, you can still buy Droege’s pork sausage from the catering business!!) I love Old Dutch’s steak salad, Cowan’s split pea soup, the BCS sando from Basket Case, the southwest wrap at La Dolce Vita, Bacon Bleu Burger and Nacho’s Supreme at the Landing, and Fritz’s Favorite sando at Joe’s Deli & Bakery!
The Shops I love The Fudge Shoppe, but my secret love is Office Supply and Equipment – I am in LOVE with office supplies! I am a pen fanatic!
The Accessories I have a hard time with accessories – I am allergic to metal and break out when I wear jewelry. I did let my awesome hair stylist and cousin, Jen Buhr from Color & Design, put a feather in my hair this year – that was fun!
The Place I really enjoy The Old Dutch. Since it has opened in April my friends and I consistently end up there. It is smoke free and very inviting. Great beers and awesome food!
Your Personal Space I must admit I am embarrassed to be a clutter-bug! I am a horrible stacker, BUT I do know where everything is for the most part. I am ALWAYS losing my keys though. I have a sign that says, “If a cluttered desk means a cluttered mind, what does an empty desk say?”
The Friends I am blessed with wonderful friends from many different areas and time periods in my life. I am still best friends with the same wonderful girl from church and elementary school – Jessica Terschluse Meyer! When you have been friends for 25+ years you just get each other. She brings a calmness and peace to me – she can read me like a book and knows when I want to talk and when I just want to sit next to her and just be. She has two amazing boys whom I adore and bring me great joy! I could go on and on about other friends, but then this would turn into a book! Just a big shout out to Danielle, Bryan, PR, Aimee, Jenny and Cherie!
At work I am in my zone. I can’t imagine a job that I would be better suited for. It changes every day. One day I can be cleaning out a porta-potty at an event and the next day proudly standing up with my Board to receive a national award for our efforts in downtown revitalization. I have the distinct pleasure of working with Aimee Frey, an amazing woman and dear friend, and Danielle Grotewiel, my sister and my other best friend! Then you add in the dynamic Aaron Holdmeyer and we are an unstoppable team! I also get the opportunity to work with two dedicated boards and over 100 awesome volunteers! Work is amazing, challenging, wonderful, stressful, fulfilling, unique and good or bad… my life!
At home Home, what’s home? Well, when I do get to be there I love it. I have a fat cat named Greta, whom I have wonderful conversations with! I bought a 1908 home in late 2004 and basically gutted it. I put in all new electric, plumbing HVAC, new kitchen, refinished all of the floors. It was a passion, obsession, and I thought I would never get done! Then I realized you really never do get “done” with an old home, but I love it!
Downtown Downtown is my heart and soul. I drink, eat and breathe downtown. I am one of downtown Washington’s biggest fans!
