As much as I love exploring Washington with my camera, I always welcome guest bloggers and their unique point of view. That’s why, when I got an e-mail from Joette Reidy, I was as happy as I could be! I have met Joette on a couple of occasions – she leads the Breathe Easy campaign and she modelled vintage fashion at the show organized by the Washington Historical Society. However, until today I had no clue that she is a co-owner at Happy Apples (so appopriate, since Joette always has a smile on her face). Without further ado, here is the blog post Joette prepared for us, photos and all! 🙂
Happy Apples is a local, family owned Caramel Apple company and Apple Orchard. Happy Apples started making caramel apples in the late 1960s and has been rolling ever since. Steve and Doris Lochirco founded the company which is now owned and run by their children and their spouses, Ed and Joette Reidy, and John and Missy Lochirco.
Happy Apples offers a wide variety of caramel apples during “apple season”, mid August through Halloween.
The newest addition to the line-up is the Double Caramel Apple, dipped in secret recipe freshly made caramel then rolled in caramel chips. Simply mouth-watering.
The orchards began in Marthasville with the first trees being planted in the mid1980’s. Happy Apples now has a total of four orchards, all just north of the Missouri river.
Betty (77) and Carol (75) are just two of the many Happy Apple’s faithful employees. They have been part of the Happy Apples family since the mid 70’s. They are proud to share their age since they can still work circles around the young ones on the line.
