Beans, Beer and The Olympics: The 2012 Chili Cook-Off

I’ve been living in Washington for three years now (It’s hard to believe it’s been that long!), and this year was my first time at the Chili Cook-Off. Shame on me, I know, but there is always so much happening downtown that it’s hard to choose what event to go to! In case you’ve never been, it’s not all about the Chili. It’s about being part of a team and giving 100%! It’s about playing along, dressing up, and having fun!

Every year Downtown Washington Inc. picks a theme and the Chili Cook-Off Teams have to come up with creative, original and amusing booth displays. I was one of the booth judges (YAY!) and this is just a fraction of what I saw:

The Chili Cook-Off happens downtown, and it always gathers a great crowd! You can get your own souvenir chili mug and sample away!

Of course, there is beer involved, too! Served by the beautiful River Wenches!

Makes you wonder, doesn’t it…

No worries, it’s all part of the dress-up! Sheltered Workshops got 3rd Place for Best Booth. Their Olympic Swim team was awesome, complete with the London Bridge!

The Washington Chamber of Commerce got 2nd place for Best Chili. They had one of the longest sampling lines!

Other teams were already winners!

The Radio Comm Olympic players were quite competitive (missing teeth and all), and they got 1st place for Best Booth for 2nd year in a row!

If there was a vote for the most attractive booth, without a doubt these ladies would win! Make sure you don’t miss this event next year!

The downtown fiesta never stops! Don’t miss the Fall Festival of the Arts and Crafts tomorrow and on Sunday! So many artists and hand-crafted items, good food and great entertainment!
