There is so much talent in our community, and I am constantly amazed when I discover it. If you have been to Calico Cat Antiques, you have probably admired the amazing furniture made out of reclaimed barn wood. Who makes it? Tami, the owner of Calico Cat Antiques, and Steve. They love woodworking and have been doing it as a business since 2010.
Steve says that old barn wood has a dense quality that makes it very strong and beautiful. Reusing the wood is good for the environment as well.

Many of their design ideas come from talking to the customers. They seek Steve because they are looking for unique furniture pieces they can’t find in any retail store. (Photo: Tami and Steve)
Other times, Tami helps Steve design something to sell at the shop using salvaged pieces of leftover wood. I am truly in love with this beautiful weathered door and the many ways in can be put to use.
Steve and Tami are very creative when it comes to designs. The most interesting cupboard they have made so far is a 3’x5′ kitchen island. The customer wanted to be able to disassemble it, so it could be moved easier. They also incorporated the glass top of a wood door for a compartment in the cupboard. (Photo: Tami and Steve)
New materials are definitely easier to work with, but the old barnwood has so much more beauty and charm. (Photo: Tami and Steve)
Completing a piece of furniture usually takes Steve a couple of weeks, because he mostly works outside on the bigger pieces. It also depends on how many orders he has to fill. (Photo: Tami and Steve)
If you are looking for a unique interior decision for your home, go and see Steve and Tami at Calico Cat Antiques. They love repurposing old doors, ceilings tin, hardware and barn wood into beautiful furnishings for homes or offices.
