I met up with Tim and Amy , Eagan Building Group owners, at the Visitor Center of all places. They came to show me their Virtual Design Studio, which gives the opportunity for people with no areal imagination (like me) to see how their house will look like beyond the blueprints. What is it that Eagan Building Group does exactly? Read more in the interview with Tim and Amy below!
Tim and Amy, visiting me at the Visitor Center in Washington to show me their Virtual Design Studio and chat about Eagan Construction Group.
How long has Eagan Building Group been in business?
We are approaching our five year anniversary of being in business in May.
What is it exactly that Eagan Building Group does?
Like our tagline says we are “A Better Way to Build.” While we are mainly focused on custom residential and commercial construction, we offer many products & services beyond what the other general contractors do such as pre-engineered metal buildings, historic preservation, and green building. We have a focus on providing a better building experience for our customers and one of the unique ways we do this is through our virtual design studio which offers the ability to visualize your project. It allows clients to literally walk through and see a project in 3-D and get photo quality images of the space prior to the start of construction. We’re able to offer a complete three dimensional design, construction schedule, and guaranteed price before the first swing of the hammer. We started offering this about a month ago and have had a tremendous response. It is one of the many ways we try to show our clients exactly what they will get from our services.
The Virtual Design Studio is an amazing way to see exactly what your house/commercial building will look like before it’s built, colors and all. You can “walk through” it, see if you like it, and do changes as you go. Pretty amazing!
What is the most challenging project you have completed?
I would say the most complicated has been all of the work we’ve completed for several school districts in the area – Gasconade County R-1, Winfield R-IV, and East Central College. Typically, all of the work must be done to coordinate with class schedules. Noise control, dust control, and minimizing distractions to the students are of the utmost importance. This may mean working evenings and weekends. Larger projects must be completed over the course of a summer. We completed both Hermann elementary and middle schools during summer break the past two years. When school starts, all contractors have to be out and classrooms must be ready for students – no exceptions. Making sure we kept pace was a constant theme throughout all the projects. While challenging, we love the opportunity to help in the community.

What are you currently working on?
We are currently in the design/bidding phase of three homes around the Washington area. We are also in the design/bid phase with a couple of customers interested in construction of new pre-engineered metal buildings. A really exciting project we’re currently working on is the rollout of a prototype store for a nationwide financial services company that currently has 80 stores. It is their goal to expand to 400 over the coming years, so they have the potential of turning into a huge customer of ours. We are helping to develop the entire concept from customer flow management & interior design choices, to complete turnkey construction services. We are slated to begin our first project for them in New Orleans, Louisiana next month.
Whether it is custom home projects…
… or office buildings, Eagan Building Group will be happy to help you!
Has the economy affected your business and what changes have you noticed in the construction industry in the last couple of years?
The economy has definitely affected our business in a big way – but probably not how you would think. Though challenging at times, the weak construction market was really a great thing for us as a whole as it forced us to sharpen our management skills, improve financial management, stay on the cutting edge of technology, and offer a much higher level of service to stay ahead. Contractors couldn’t walk ten feet without tripping over a new project in the first half of the decade and it encouraged a lot inexperienced people to go into business for themselves. The companies still standing have proven that they’re solid businesses and in it for the long haul.
Did you know that Eagan Building Group built the new Hardee’s in Washington? Yes, they did!
Anything else you would like to add.
We try to combine knowledge and in house technological capabilities to make sure our customers are happy with our work. We can offer assistance in securing historic preservation tax credits, as well as the latest and greatest green building methods and materials that maximize energy efficiency. Our priority is to stay on the cutting edge technologically and utilize all the latest construction software enabling us to offer our customers a unique construction experience. To put it simply, we try to offer more to our customers. Many people look at contractors as a necessary evil in the building process. We want to be viewed as an invaluable asset to our customers’ project success.
