It’s not by chance Washington calls itself “The Heart of Wine Country.” We have the best of both worlds – so many wineries in the direction of Hermann and Augusta. During Art & Winefest in May, you get to sample wine from all of them and then all through the summer and fall you get to visit them one by one and find out which wine/scenery/view combinations you like the best. I can’t play favorites, but I love Montelle.
Located in the Augusta region, Montelle calls itself “Missouri’s Most Scenic Winery.” Can you blame them?
They have an amazing wine list with wonderful varieties for every taste, from very dry to deliciously sweet. Montelle wines have won numerous medals and awards.
The tasting room is spacious and inviting, and you can sample wines free of charge. Definitely give the Raspberry wine a try, it’s so very good!
As I mentioned, the wine list is long. So many varieties, fragrances and flavors to sample. I did not see anyone there complain about that. 😉
We love visiting Montelle, but on that particular summer evening we were there for one of their amazing Sunset Dinners. They are held at 7pm on Friday and Saturday from May until October, and they are absolutely delightful.
What is more, on that evening we also happened to enjoy a wonderful concert by the St. Louis Symphony.
In case you were wondering, Montelle always has free live music on weekends, from April through October.
After the concert, everyone was ready for the Sunset Dinner. The staff had transformed the patio into an elegant outdoor dining area.
There is nothing better than having a fancy dinner outside with a beautiful view.
Actually, there is one thing that makes it better – a good company! 🙂
The Himmelswine is my all-time favorite from Montelle, but I also love the Peach wine and the Raspberry (as mentioned above). Their semi-sweet and dry wines are excellent as well.
Salad was served. Deliciousness on a plate. Fresh bread and butter included as well.
A Sunset Dinner at Montelle is a great idea for a romantic date for two.
But also a perfect option for a group of friends. Good times are guaranteed, enjoying the excellent food, wonderful wine, and breathtaking sunset vistas.
The main course arrived: Red Wine and Garlic Marinated Flank Steak with a Norton Demi-glace with Tri-colored Israeli Couscous and Sauteed Brussel Sprouts. I don’t have to say it, you know it was delicious.
As the sun was setting, the wine kept pouring and the conversations got more lively and engaging. Don’t you just love that view?
The dinner would not be complete without a decadent dessert. I had to take half of it home. They offer to-go boxes, too 😉
The sun took a dive down the horizon, and the atmosphere got even more romantic and serene.
Candle light and happy people. Are you already making plans for this Friday/Saturday at Montelle? 😉
The moon made its appearance, and I asked: “So,…when are we doing this again?” 😉 It was truly a wonderful evening with great company.
