We see her pictures in the paper all the time, she attends all important events in town, she hosts tea parties for little school girls and takes important decisions at City Hall, while constantly supporting and promoting her husband and his art. Sandy Lucy is an amazing woman, and we are happy to have her as a Mayor of Washington. I have known her for a while and I always enjoy her company. Being as busy as she is, we’ve been trying to get together and do an interview for a long time, and we finally got the chance.
The Morning: Gary and I attend daily mass at Borgia Church, usually at 7am. After that, I go to work – either at City Hall or the Art Gallery.
The Coffee: I usually have my coffee at City Hall. I enjoy it with half and half, but in general I drink it black. I noticed that since I became the Mayor I’ve been drinking more coffee, because it’s always available at work.
The Drink: I try to drink lots of water during the day. In the evening, I enjoy a glass of wine.
The Food: I am not a picky eater. I have a sweet tooth – I’ve never met a dessert I don’t like. Probably my favorite is my mother’s home-made chicken soup – nothing compares to that.
The Shops: I don’t have much time for shopping, and I am very lucky because my mother goes clothes shopping for me. A little known fact, but she is great at it and it saves me a lot of time. That’s the only way in which she still has control over me. I love kitchen gadget stores, and in my next life I have a feeling I’d be a really good cook!
The Book: When I was growing up, I used to love reading Nancy Drew. Now unfortunately reading a book has become a luxury. I read magazines in the evening, and I wish I had more time for books.
The Movie: One of my favorites is “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale”. It’s a movie about a dog who is very devoted to its master and their special bond.
The Personal Space: Home. As much as I enjoy being out and meeting with people all week long, I love to come back home and have some time to myself.
The Friends: I have lots of acquaintances and very few friends. I am lucky to have my best friend Nancy – we grew up together, she lived next door and we are like sisters. I enjoy a friendship like that which stands the test of time and even if you don’t see the person for a while you can pick up right where you left off.
At Home: I enjoy relaxing at home, reading magazines, and listening to music.
At Work: Both, at the Gallery and at the City, I get to meet and communicate with a lot of people and this gives me a lot of energy. I truly enjoy my work and I love promoting Gary and his art. The biggest challenge for me is to manage the time between the gallery and being a mayor, and I am learning to get better at it.
The City: I am honored to be a Mayor. Washington is such an amazing community and I like meeting people from all walks of life, young and old, I believe it’s important to be a role model and set a good example. The world belongs to those who show up.
Downtown: I am lucky to live and work downtown, and I love the historic buildings and our great community. Downtown has certainly changed throughout the years, and it’s exciting to see it grow and expand.
