I don’t remember where and when I first met Rick Hopp, but it seems that ever since I’ve known him I run across him all the time in downtown Washington. Rick is the President of the Board of the Historic Washington Foundation, Board Member Emeritus of Downtown Washington Inc, Member of the Washington Lions Club, and President of Wiemann & Pues Insurance Agency. Despite all his titles, he is a very down-to-earth gentleman with a sense of humor, who is not afraid of any type of work. His latest project has been working on converting the downtown Cabin into a bed & breakfast, and he is almost done with refinishing the wood floors. That’s where I met up with him to take pictures for his interview.
The Morning: The morning is simple, up at 6:00 AM or so, watch the news and most days take a walk from my condo to the park and back. Clean up and head to the office by 8:00 AM.
The Coffee: Don’t drink coffee, never have.
The Drink: My drink of choice is Green Tea. I drink the stuff all day long. (not to say in some given evenings you might catch me drinking a little wine 🙂 )
The Food: My favorite dish is Salmon. I pretty much order it everywhere I go. My friends laugh at me when we’re out for dinner somewhere knowing what I will order. Sometimes they order for me!
The Shops: I prefer to use the shops downtown when I can. However, I’m not a major shopper 🙂
The City: The city of Washington is the best place to be! The spirit here is nothing you can find anywhere else.
The Place: My place is anywhere downtown. I feel conecnted to the people, the buildings and streets which are a part of our heritage.
The Book: Any type of history book.
The Movie: My favoite movie is Blazing Saddles.
Your Personal Space: My personal space is on a farm in Gasconade County that overlooks the Gasconade River. I spent most of my youth there and is the only place that it all comes back to me.
Downtown Washington Inc.: DWI is my passion and focus. The orgainization comes together with folks who share the same passion. As one you have a small voice, as many you will be heard. We have made great strides in keeping the energy and heritage in our downtown and we’re not finished.
The Friends: My friends, well I can not say enough about the people who care and welcome me as their friend. I enjoy friendships with special people who are there for you in good times as well as times that have a major impact on your life. Withthose special people to share both the good and the not so good, my life has been blessed. To those friends, I hope I too make a difference in their lives.
At work: At work, well that is time to take care of the people who depend on me and my staff to make the right choices that protect their property, their lives and basic needs. We do this everyday and dedicated to help each and everyone. I enjoy working with people and strive make sure they are protected.
At home: Well I am not at home too often. It seems the days are full and always a need to complete a project. However, when I do get a night off, I enjoy watching the Cardinal baseball games or the “Deadliest Catch”. I will always stop to watch a nature program or anything that has to do with hunting or fishing. I also enjoy BBQing when I have time. Not much of a cook, but do enjoy experimenting on the grill.
Downtown: As mentioned above, this community is my passion. The people, the places and the spirit that we live each day, it the glue that keeps this town together. I hope that we can pass this spirit onto to the youth and that they too will keep it alive!!
