The 175th Anniversary Parade: Happy Birthday Washington MO!

When I got invited to be part of the 175th Anniversary Parade Committee last year, I was honored and excited, yet I had no clue how much work goes into organizing something like that! However,  Judy Tobben, the Parade Committee Chairperson, made it all look and sound like fun and our monthly meetings were indeed a joy. After a year of planning (yes, that’s how long it takes), today we got to enjoy beautiful weather and some amazing floats for the parade! The 175th Anniversary Parade was organized around 7 key anchor floats, built by local service organizations with the help of Doug Weber, Jeff Kuchem, Tim Glasstetter and other committee members. The floats were as follows: Freedom – VFW and American Legion Industry – Washington Lions Club Commerce – The Elks Agriculture – The Washington Knights of Columbus Education – The Washington Optimist Club Family Life – The Washington Jaycees  Volunteerism – Washington Rotary Club Hostorian Ralph Greory, at 104, was the Parade Grand Marshall, Mayor Sandy Lucy and her husband, renowned artist Gary Lucy, rode in a beautiful horse-drawn carriage, and the world-famous Clydesdales were one of the main attractions in the parade! Find more information about all of the participants below the photo gallery 🙂
