The Earth We Live On

Today I went to two places I have been wanting to go to for quite some time – the Washington Landfill and the Katy Trail. Very different from each other at first glance, they exist in close proximity and on the same Earth we all live on.

Happy Earth Day!

“So much cardboard gets thrown away. And people pay to dump it in the landfill. I tell them to take it to the recycling center it instead. It’s free.”

“Until a man duplicates a blade of grass, Nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge. Remedies from chemicals will never stand in favorable comparison with the products of Nature, the living cell of a plant, the final result of the rays of the sun, the mother of all life.”

— Thomas Alva Edison

“How can we be so arrogant? The planet is, was, and always will be stronger than us. We can’t destroy it; if we overstep the mark, the planet will simply erase us from its surface and carry on existing. Why don’t they start talking about not letting the planet destroy us?”
― Paulo CoelhoThe Winner Stands Alone

  3. Anyone who lives in the town of Washington and doesn’t recycle ought to be ashamed of themselves! There’s curbside service for gosh sakes!! My husband and I live outside the city limits so we have barrels in our garage for aluminum, tin, plastic, bins for glass…and all of it goes to the recycling center a couple times a year. ITS NOT HARD!

  4. Thanks for posting this Slava. I’ll share it with my students today. They can’t seem to grasp what a landfill really is.
